Visit the following links for more information pertaining to the 35th and other units:
Building the Alaska Highway: A wonderful edition to the Public Broadcasting Channel's series, American Experience. I had the thrill of providing some assistance with this project. Chester Russell, Alden Hacker, and Gene Geyer (all previous members of the 35th) are featured in the film.
The 87th Infantry Division Association: This site is dedicated to the veterans of the 87th Infantry Division. The 35th supported the 87th in the assault crossings of the Mosel and Rhine Rivers in March 1945.
6th Corps Combat Engineers: A wonderful site created by Marion Chard, the daughter of a WW2 combat engineer veteran. You will find your visit to her site extremely informative and enjoyable.
The Louisiana Maneuvers: The 35th participated in the famed Louisiana Maneuvers in September 1941. These training exercises were instrumental in preparing the US Army for its involvement in World War II.
The US Army in Germany (1945-1989): Covers the history of US Army units that served in Germany and Europe after the end of World War II through the Cold War period. The 35th ECB returned to Germany in the early 1950s as part of the Korean War build-up.
Building the Road to Alaska: By John T. Greenwood. The construction of the Alaskan-Canadian Highway began in March 1942. The 35th, then a regiment of two battalions, was the first unit on "the road". You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the article.

First On the Line: Little has been written about the 35th's involvement in the Battle of the Bulge. You may be surprised to find out just how important a role the 35th played. You will be redirected to www.criba.be.
Ardennes: The Battle of the Bulge: Written by Hugh Cole. This official history of the Battle of the Bulge, as published by the Center of Military History, is a must have. The entire book is available to read online. Just click on the image.

Tales of a Catskinner: Chester Russell's personal account of constructing the Alaska Highway and Canol Road. Mr. Russell is a veteran of the 35th. This is a must read for anybody wishing to get a soldier's perspective of life on "the road". Click on the image at left for purchasing information.
Americans in Brittany: The Battle for Brest, by Jon Gawne. This a great book for anybody looking for a well-rounded historical account of the battle. Many photos and unit histories make this a great book. Very well-researched and written. Click on the image for purchasing information.
35th Engineer (Combat) Battalion
Northern France - Rhineland - Ardennes/Alsace - Central Europe
Northwest Epic: The Building of the Alaska Highway: Written by Heath Twichell, simply the best book I've found covering the Alaska Highway. Twichell's father served as the 35th Regiment's executive officer until he took command of another engineer battalion. This book is extremely well-researched and written.
Alamo in the Ardennes: By John C. McManus. The untold story of the American soldiers who made the defense of Bastogne possible. Focused primarily on the actions of the 28th ID, 10th AD, and the 9th AD, this book is sure to shed some needed light on the early defense of Bastogne. The 35th was attached to the 10th AD during the initial days of the Bulge.
